That's right derby fans, the Fairbanks Rollergirls are gearing up for their 2011-12 bout season! The uber-athletes of FBXRG have been training all summer (in between doing community service and generally being 'good' girls in the off-season) to get ready for what promises to be our biggest season yet.  We are now a full WFTDA Member League meaning National Rankings and bringing up more teams from the states!  This season, the Fairbanks Rollergirls are bringing new competitors up to the Interior from leagues from the lower 48 and Canada, as well as a several bouts between your favorite home girls - the Raven Rebels and the Gold Diggers! In addition to the two returning teams of FBXRG, the league will continue to bring you Junior Derby awesomeness from our Cold'n Heart Junior Derby league Bruise Berries and Fools Gold teams. Only at the Carlson Center can you experience some of the best live sportsWOmanship in Fairbanks and we're counting on our loyal fans to help cheer on FBXRG this season.  Come check out our new merchandise and new skaters as well as the familiar favorites! September 17th - Gold Diggers vs. Raven Rebels

December 10th - All Stars vs. TCRG Faster Pussycats (International REMATCH!)

February 4th - Gold Diggers vs. Raven Rebels

April 7th - All Stars vs. Killamazoo Derby Darlins

May 19th (Double Header) - FBXRG Team "A" vs. Juneau Roller Girls, FBXRG Team "B" vs. Yukon Roller Girls*

* The Raven Rebels will play one team and the Gold Diggers will play the other, teams TBD.

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce today that the Fairbanks Rollergirls have been accepted as a member of the WFTDA, the national governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby in the U.S.

As a new member of the WFTDA, the Fairbanks Rollergirls join the ranks of over 75 all-female, skater owned and operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women's flat track roller derby. WFTDA member leagues engage in sanctioned interleague play, including regional and national tournaments. Fairbanks Rollergirls will be a Class B member in the west region.

Afraid of the dark? Get a glowstick! FBXRG is helping local law enforcement with Operation GLOW this year. We’re helping to assemble 12,000 glow sticks for the program. Officers will then hand them out to kids, keeping them illuminated and safe. We’ll also be at Creamer’s Field on Oct. 30 for their Creepy Critters program. They promise a spooky (& fun!) day about wolves. Happy Halloween everyone!

How does a quarter ounce gold nugget sound to you?

Starting today, July 20th grab a copy of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and follow the clues and be on your way to finding the gold!

Regulations:

1. Must be 18 or older to participate
2. No Fairbanks Rollergirls or Interior Graphics employee or their relatives are eligible.
3. The boundaries are within the downtown business area, the poke will be hidden outdoors.
4. Clues will be given daily.
5. There will be approx. 1/4 ounce of gold hidden.
6. Contestants must find our hidden poke of gold without questioning Fairbanks Rollergirls^* or Interior Graphics employees. The lucky person who finds the hidden poke shall redeem it for GOLD nuggets at the Fairbanks Rollergirls office. We are located at 770 8th Avenue. Our hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

^*The Fairbanks Rollergirls have no knowledge of where the gold is hidden. Be savvy, get the paper, read the clues, find the gold!

With your support, our Fairbanks Rollergirls raised over $2,000 for the Relay for Life, a national event to raise cancer awareness. Special thanks to rollergirl SaBOBtage who wo-manned the event for the entire 24 hours. You go girl!

The Fairbanks Rollergirls were recently featured in a national commercial for Prilosec OTC as a part of the Project Fairbanks ad campaign which offered up a brief look into the lives of a diverse group of Fairbanksans with a common problem: heartburn.

Fairbanks Rollergirls' own Jump On Jen was featured prominently in the commercial alongside her teammates during the Home for the Holidays bout in December of 2009.

The Fairbanks Rollergirls would like to thank the Terminal City Rollergirls Faster Pussycats co-captain Tiki Timebomb for coming all the way from Canada last month to knock us into shape with an awesome roller derby boot camp.

Tiki brought with her two days of intense drills, cardio, endurance, and, our favorite, proper hitting techniques! She left with a lot of new friends, a new nickname, and a heightened addiction to her favorite food, avocados!

Tiki, you've got a place to stay in Fairbanks any time!

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce the Fairbanks Rollergirls have been accepted as an “Apprentice” affiliate of the WFTDA, the governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby. As an Apprentice affiliate of the WFTDA, Fairbanks Rollergirls joins the ranks of more than 100 all-female, skater-owned-and-operated leagues nationwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women's flat track roller derby. WFTDA apprentice leagues are matched with veteran member leagues who guide them in the processes and requirements necessary to become a full member of the Association. Additionally, the mentor offers advice and information related to the management and development of the apprentice league. WFTDA Apprentice leagues are considered “pre-members” of the WFTDA and have access to many of the resources and benefits of full WFTDA membership.
